Student Outcomes

2.       Understand that Excel does two things: Calculations and Data Analysis

3.       Understand and apply formatting as façade

4.       "Understand and apply formula creation for calculations and data analysis, and be able to create formulas for number

5.       calculations, text creation and logical analysis"

6.       Understand and apply formula elements such as; equal sign, ampersand, built-in functions, arithmetic operators, comparative operators

7.       Understand the basics of array formulas

8.       Understand and apply efficient spreadsheet construction, including proper data analysis setup, formula setup, and formula input setup

9.       Understand and apply keyboard shortcuts to facilitate quick spreadsheet creation

10.   Understand Excel data analysis tools such as: Pivot Tables, Sorting, Filtering, Subtotals, and formulas for data analysis

11.   Solve business problems by applying Excel knowhow in creative ways


 

In-Class Work, Videos, Homework, Testing

1.       There is no textbook with reading and homework (only a reference book).

·         Instead of a book, there are videos for you to watch.

·         This means that you must have access to a computer with high-speed internet.

·         If you do not have access to a computer with high-speed internet, you can use Highline Computers in building 29 or 30.

2.       There are no homework problems from a book, but instead each Monday you will be given an Excel workbook with the homework problems for the week. If you are not here on Monday, all the class materials are posted at our web site)

·         Homework is not handed in.

·         Homework is for you to practice for the tests.

·         The answers to the homework problems are in the Excel workbook that will be handed out each Monday (right-click a sheet tab and point to Unhide to show the homework answers).

3.       On Monday of each week I will hand out these things (available at our web site also):

·         List of videos for the week

·         Excel workbook to use in class

·         Excel workbook for videos

·         Excel workbook with homework

4.       Each Day in class we will work on projects

5.       Each Day you will go home and watch videos, practice what you see in the videos, and work on Excel homework workbook.

6.       On most Fridays (see below) I will handout a test that you will complete over the weekend.

·         The tests are due the following Monday.

·         The tests will be handed in by drop box and are due by 12:15 PM.

7.       Final Test is an in-class test on Tuesday June 8, 12:30 PM to 2:20 PM.

Important Dates:

Incomplete Policy

1.       Incompletes are considered only if 80% of the class work is done with a 2.0 grade or higher before the end of the eighth week.

2.       If 80% of the class work is not completed with a 2.0 grade or higher before the end of the eighth week, an incomplete is not allowed.

3.       If an incomplete is granted, a contract between the student and teacher will be created and the terms of the contact must be completed within four weeks of the last day of class.
