          Michael Gel Girvin

As a business teacher at Highline Community College my accomplishments are:

1) Authored FOUR FREE textbooks used by students in Accounting 121 and Busniness 216 Highline classes.

2) Converted traditional business content classes like Statistics, Finance, Math and Accounting into classes taught in a computer lab where the business content is taught using Excel for all quantitative calculations and data analysis. The goal is to teach the business content in a real-world context and get students to automatically think about quantitative tasks in efficient spreadsheet creation terms.

3) Created SEVEN full classes where 100% of lecture material is streaming online in video forum. The goal is two-fold: 1) For online teaching, videos are perhaps the most efficient communication channel, and they are the future of online teaching; 2) For classes that are taught in the classroom (not online), students can review what they saw in the classroom – to summarize this idea from a student’s comment: “Finally I have a rewind button on my teacher!”.

4) Posted 2500 Excel Business related videos at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/excelisfun

5) Published book title: “Slaying Excel Dragons” (Holy Macro! Books, 2011) :
